For chronic renal insufficiency, the initial recommended feeding period is up to 6 months; for temporary renal insufficiency, 2-4 weeks; and for chronic cardiac insufficiency, initially up to 6 months. It should be used under veterinary supervision, particularly for cats receiving treatment for kidney disease, heart disease or hypertension.
